VG: Barna som bor isolert

Very alarming, and this is happening in Norway.

Some child welfare children are forced by Barnevernet to stay in isolation, away from other children – often for years.

This article is about Barnevernet’s «enetiltak», meaning one child being forced to live ALONE and being «followed up» by a whole team of Barnevernet child welfare workers.

In this story, a girl (16), was taken to a remote cabin in the woods, 20km away from any type of amenity, «to prevent her from running away» from the institution she stayed in.

Barnevernet told her it was only for a few days, while in reality, her return to civilisation was postponed again and again, until she had been there for three and a half months.

Completely isolated and without her phone or laptop which had been confiscated. Barnevernet describes «betterment» in their papers, while the girl tells the reporter that the stay in that cabin, with no schooling and with nothing to do, made her think life wasn’t worth living.

These «enetiltak» are said to be a last option when a child is considered as a possible threat to themselves or to others. In 2016, the Norwegian authorities promised to reduce the use of this extreme measure. However, the use of this method has increased by an alarming 150% since then.
