«We acknowledge the profound affects of these polices practices on fathers, and we recognise the hurt these actions caused to brothers and sisters, grandparents, partners and the extended family members. We deplore the shameful practices that denied you, the mothers, your fundamental rights and responsibilities to love and care for your children. You were not legally or socially acknowledged as their mothers, and you were yourselves deprived of care and support. To you, the mothers, that were betrayed by a system that gave you no choice and subjected you to manipulation, mistreatment and malpractice, we apologise.»

A speech on March 21 2013, by the Australian Prime Minister at the time, Julia Gillard.

May I just say, the indigenous community of Australia, the Aboriginals, were initially ignored as human beings. The first settlers of Australia referred to this land as ‘Terra Nullius’ which means ‘nobodie’s land’ so it was finders keepers, apparently.

While it was many years after the atrocities caused by our ancestors that an apology was made, how is it possible that there are 2 Prime Ministers in our history recognising the shame of our past and publicly acknowledging it, yet a country deemed to be the most developed, treat it’s only people with even less regard?

I question just who put Norway at the top of the charts when they are committing the crimes of Australia’s past in 2016?
